What do you do if you see a whale stranded on the beach? Call the experts who are trained to help. Animal rescuers are strong, knowledgeable and have huge hearts! They often volunteer their time, and sometimes, even the best rescuers can’t save an animal, but they can still make it as comfortable as possible during its final moments. If they can’t save it, they can still learn a lot by doing a necropsy (which is like an autopsy for animals) to figure out why the animal stranded in the first place. Whales on the beach are in a serious situation, but animals like seals, sea lions, and sea turtles often spend time on the shore. If they are hurt in some way, they have a much better chance of surviving with the right care. One of the most amazing feelings ever is seeing an animal you helped get healthy again return to the ocean!
